1) Political Assistant
The Consulate General of Japan in Boston is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual for the position of Political Assistant. This individual is primarily responsible for conducting research analysis on U.S. political affairs. Responsibilities
Conduct research analysis about U.S. Political Affairs and U.S.-Japan relations (including attending events, seminars, and meetings and generating written content)
Build collaborative relationships with internal and external groups to strengthen U.S.-Japan ties.
Other responsibilities as required, including jobs related to front office reception and consular services
Essential qualifications and expertise
Bachelor’s degree or above
Strong analytical and written communication skills are imperative
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Strong computer skills, including extensive experience with Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel, and ability to create website articles
Flexibility and ingenuity
Desirable qualifications and experience
Degree in one of the following areas: Law, Politics, International Relations, or a related field
Specialist knowledge or working experience regarding research analysis, public relations, or communication strategy
Working Hours and Benefits
Working hours: 9:00 am – 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional paid overtime is required as needed. The Consulate General of Japan in Boston offers group health insurance coverage, paid vacation and sick leave. Salary is commensurate with work and academic experience.

2) Executive Assistant
The Consulate General of Japan in Boston is seeking a person for the position of Executive Assistant to the Consul General. The Consulate offers group health insurance coverage, twenty days of paid vacation per year, a number of paid U.S./Japanese holidays, three paid summer holidays, and sick leave. Salary is commensurate with academic and professional experience. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in international affairs or Japanese/American relations. The position serves as a link between the Consulate and local governments, universities, and other organizations in New England. The ideal candidate will be someone flexible enough to work on multiple projects at the same time, have an understanding of and interest in Japanese culture and US-Japan relations, and have the ability to make connections with a wide variety of local businesses, government agencies, universities, and other organizations.
Basic Information:
Work hours: Monday–Friday 9:00 A.M.-5:30 P.M.
Lunch break: 12:15 P.M.-1:15 P.M.
Occasional overtime is required
The Consulate is located at 100 High Street, a few blocks from South Station, and is easily accessible by the Red Line, Silver Line, and Commuter Rail.
Principal Responsibilities:
Serve as a liaison, relationship manager and advisor between the Consulate-General of Japan and federal and local government agencies, universities, businesses and organizations throughout New England and Japan.
Build collaborative relationships with internal and external groups to strengthen Ministry affairs and U.S.-Japan ties.
Assist the Consul General in administrative duties. Examples are scheduling meetings, maintaining the Consul General’s calendar/schedule, drafting letters and e-mails, speech writing and editing of documents.
Assist with planning and setting up events such as luncheons, dinners, receptions, and other meetings.
Other duties, including preparation of lists/documents from the Consulate’s database, as required.
Requirements:
Master’s degree, with a preference for specializations in international relations, Japanese/East Asian studies, or related disciplines.
Fluent in English
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
Experience of living or working abroad is highly preferred
Basic knowledge of relations between Japan and New England, especially in the Greater Boston area
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. green card holder. The Consulate is unable to provide visa sponsorship.
