Japan: Teaching Peace, Connecting People
Primary Source and the Boston Children’s Museum are presenting a course on November 7th at the Children’s Museum: Japan: Teaching Peace, Connecting People
The program will explore ways Japan has contributed to world peace since the end of World War II, current controversies and in particular how teachers can teach about Japan, peace building, and friendship. Anne Prescott who has led two delegations of teachers to Japan to learn about peace education and heads the Five Colleges East Asia Center also will provide an overview of peace education in Japan and Lani Gerson will will lead a discussion of peace education in the US. The day will also feature a performance by Women of the World who will be “Circle Singing” with the teachers and teaching how to create and exercise the culture of acceptance through music on November 7 at the Boston Children’s Museum. They will also share their story of how they made their Peace Song and their experience in Hiroshima. This program is appropriate for high school educators as well as K-8 teachers.

teamLab at Radcliffe: What a Loving and Beautiful World
October 16–November 14, 2015
Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University
Hours: Monday through Saturday, 12 PM–5 PM
The newly renovated Johnson-Kulukundis Family Gallery at the Radcliffe Institute will open with a multimedia exhibition by teamLab that immerses viewers in a sophisticated and dreamlike world that is digitally generated. Based in Japan, teamLab is a consortium of artists, engineers, and computer scientists specializing in unique ultra-technological installations, where contemporary art, design, engineering, and computer science meet.
This exhibition is only the second ever in the United States dedicated to teamLab.
In teamLab at Radcliffe: What a Loving and Beautiful World, Chinese and Japanese characters appear on the walls of the gallery. When the viewer’s hand touches a character, an image of the character’s meaning emerges and interacts with images generated from other characters. The result is a colorful, multisensory space that continuously evolves as the images influence one another. New visual worlds are constantly created, and never repeated, immersing each visitor in his or her own unique experience.
Installations by teamLab have garnered attention around the world and have been displayed at Art Basel Hong Kong, Expo Milano, the Singapore Biennale, as well as in art festivals, galleries, and exhibition spaces in Australia, Brazil, China, France, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, Sweden, and Taiwan.
