Volunteer Needed for Black Ships Festival for Saturday (7/20)

Hi everyone,

This weekend,  the annual Black Ships Festival which commemorates Admiral Perry’s opening of Japan will take place in Newport RI.  As usual, the Japanese Consulate will have a booth there and would like to know if anyone would like to join us.  We’ll be doing Goldfish Scooping (kingyo sukui) with fake fish as well as Fishing for Balloons (yoyo tsuri).  We’ll also have our Tanabata display for people to make wishes on.

We’ll depart from near South Station at 8:00 am and head back around 3:00 or 3:30.  We have one open seat in the Consulate van and the ride takes about an hour and a half.  You don’t have to stay at the Consulate table all day–you can come and go if you like.

Even if you go to the festival on your own, stop by our booth in Touro Park!

Yakitori Zai he ikimashou!

Nihongo it up with some grilled meat on a stick.

On Sunday, July 14th at 2:30pm we’re heading out to Yakitori Zai again. Check out our pictures from June. But this time round, there’s a caveat: nihongo dake onegaishimasu!

Price is $10 per person. Laughter is free. Generously subsidized by CLAIR & Yakitori Zai.

Participants will enjoy a bowl of Yakitori Zai’s special weekend Ramen Menu to start.  Then they will learn the proper way to cut up a chicken from an experienced chef; and then will get a chance to work the grill like the Yakitori-ya-san you’ve always secretly wanted to be.  Irasshai!

As this event is limited to 12 people, there will be a waiting list. All participants will need to Re-Confirm the day before the event to ensure that all slots are filled.  Thank you for understanding!

Nihongo dake dinners are always a huge hit, so be sure to come out to this one. It promises to be amazing. FIRST COME FIRST SERVE: RSVP NOW to Brian: membership at nejetaa dot com
