The NEJETAA Officers
Click below to read the officer responsibilities. Please note: All officer duties are listed in the Officer Description and Duties file in our downloads section.
Vice President
Generally, the VP provides both leadership and follow-through on projects planned during meetings, and makes sure that we are fulfilling all our obligations as a JETAA chapter. Specifically, the VP works with the membership/ marketing coordinator to increase and track membership. The VP also is the point person for any NEJETAA sub chapters in New England. The Vice President also takes on the duties of the president when the president is unavailable. In addition, the VP provides checks and balances to the Treasurer by accessing our bank account online.
Treasurer
The Treasurer plans the annual budget in conjunction with all officers; the Treasurer submits and initial budget request to CLAIR in May, and follow up budget reports to CLAIR in December and March; the Treasurer maintains and balances the bank account; collects receipts and writes checks (approximately one-two checks per month) for any chapter expenses, and deposits any checks received immediately, or within two weeks maximum. The Treasurer will make regular monthly/yearly payments to the website hosting service and the domain registrar. Also supports NEJETAA events as necessary.
Social Chair
The Social Chair provides leadership to the Social Committee in planning and carrying out various social events. The social chair works closely with the Membership Clerk to provide integrated planning so that we can reach new members and understand member needs and interests.
Webmaster/Communications Coordinator (6 month term, up for full 1-year term election in Nov. 2013)
The Webmaster maintains our online presence, keeping the website up to date in content. The Webmaster also assists people to post content to the website, such as job descriptions and events for the calendar. The Webmaster supports marketing/outreach with the NEJETAA website, Facebook page, LinkedIn group, and Twitter account to attract more users and make the site more comprehensive and resourceful.
Social Committee Members (Volunteer ANY TIME!)
The Social Committee plans approximately one event per month, such as Happy Hours, the Welcome Back party, Nihongo Dake dinners, etc. The members of the social committee (generally about 3-5 members at any given time) are volunteers (rather than elected people) and are not considered officers.

Perceiving Politics: Art, Protest, and Everyday Life in Early 1960s Japan
William Marotti, UCLA
Marotti explores politics, events, and timeliness, by examining the advent of a critical art of the everyday in Japan in the 1960s and its links to political action. Out of sync with eventful mass activism, artists sought to create eventfulness by engineering a perceptual politics against a state-promoted, depoliticizing daily life in the high growth economy.

Our friends at the Boston’s Children’s Museum is seeking help in testing their website’s new pages about their Japanese House (“Kyo No Machiya”).
In the Boston Children’s Museum, there is one-of-a-kind exhibit called “Kyo No Machiya” Japanese house. This well-loved house has been a mainstay of our permanent exhibits and has bought a bit of Kyoto to generations of Boston families. Now, in our 100th year, we’re pleased to introduce a project that will bring the Kyo no Machiya to even more audiences around the world, and there will be more opportunities to get to know about this special house. This new project, the “Kyo no Machiya website”, will offer features like a virtual house tour, educational videos about the house and life in Kyoto, and a glimpse into our extensive Japanese collections. We hope that it will be a rich learning tool for people around the world who are interested in learning about Japan.
“When will this new website be available?”, you ask. Actually, that’s why we’re contacting you: we need your help. The website is nearly done but now needs the sort of test drive and constructive review. If you would be so kind as to take just 5-10 minutes out of your busy day and check out our beta site and a brief survey about it, we would be extremely grateful. The more people that take advantage of this sneak preview and complete the survey, the quicker we can put the finishing touches on this unique resource and make it available to families, students, educators and everyone in everywhere!
Thank you in advance for your time. We will be sure to let you know when this incredible new resource is officially complete.
Best regards,
Akemi Chayama
